Two of four RCDS Middle School Robotics teams, 90600A and 90600D, travelled to Glen Cove, Long Island, to compete in the Southern New York State VEX Championship Tournament held at Friends Academy. Thirty-six teams of outstanding robotics students from approximately 10 schools and organizations competed. The RCDS teams advanced to this tournament after the qualifier held on February 22 at Vaughn College of Aeronautics. In the qualifier, 90600A placed third in teamwork for creating a high-scoring robot, and 90600D won the STEM Research Project Award.
Though the Wildcats faced tough competition from high performing teams such as the Hewitt School, the TechTitans, and the Spiky Dinos, they made outstanding strides, earning their highest scores to date (an average of about 80 points for each team!). At the end of the day, team 90600D again earned the coveted STEM Research Award; winning this award at the state level speaks to the team's innovation and dedication to learning and creativity.
The four RCDS Middle School Robotics teams worked incredibly hard this season, expanding their knowledge of engineering, programming, and design while honing their skills in teamwork and problem solving.
