Boys' Varsity Ice Hockey: The team traveled to Princeton Day School for its annual tournament.  In the first game, the team played the host PDS team. After falling behind 6-2 after 2 periods, the team battled back and controlled the third period.  However, the team was only able to get 2 goals in the period and fell 6 - 4.  The goals were scored by Blake Beber, Will Halloran, and Gabe ReganEric Herbst gave a strong appearance as relief goalie after the second period. In the consolation game, the team took on Malvern Prep from Philadelphia. Eddie Massaro made his first varsity start in the game and played strong throughout.  The team took a 2 - 0 lead in the first period with goals from Blake Beber and Kyle Halloran. However, a strong Malvern Prep team won the game 6 - 3.

Boys' Varsity Basketball: The team opened its season this week at the Horace Mann invitational tournament. On Friday, the Wildcats played the Loyola School and won 90-73 with Salim Green and Tyler Fernandez combining for 53 points. Saturday proved to be a challenge against the home team, Horace Mann. The game finished 74-69 with Salim Green and Tyler Fernandez combining again for over 50 points. With Salim Green's performance, he won All Tournament team honors, while Tyler Fernandez went on to win the tournament MVP. It was a great start to the season, and we hope to continue with success.

Girls' Varsity Ice Hockey: The team split its first two games. On Wednesday, December 4, the Wildcats lost to Canterbury 0-5. Despite the score, goaltender Gracyn Campbell played very well, tackling many shots. Fortunately, the team bounced back and defeated The Hill School 9-2 on Saturday, December 7. Freshman defenseman Sarah Ince tallied 6 points (3 goals and 3 assists), captain Ciara Claire contributed with 2 goals and 4 assists, Charlotte Fleischman and Olivia Weaver each netted a goal. Additionally, Maddie Lyons had 1 goal and 3 assists, and Steph O'Brien scored 1 goal and had 2 assists. Haley Shea and Claire Monahan also made strong efforts, and assistant captain Jamie Simensky, supported the team. The team also faced two scrimmages last week against Greenwich High School and Darien High School, which afforded the Wildcats the opportunity to work on a lot of plays and systems. The team will look to play Canterbury in a rematch at home on Saturday, December 14, at 3 p.m.

Boys' Varsity Squash: The team lost its first match of the season 6-1 to a very strong Hotchkiss team. Despite the overall score, the team had some excellent matches. Jack Mattson led the way with a 3-1 win in the number 5 spot, and Eli Rattner, Teddy Tananbaum, and James Pierpont all had extremely close matches that could have gone either way. After Hotchkiss, the team was able to defeat King 7-0, as James Pierpont, Jack Mattson, Eli Rattner, Teddy Tananbaum, Nathan Spring, Kyle Eagan, Jon Singer, and Hunter Chun all won their matches 3-0. In the end, Kyle Eagan was the man of the match, as he only allowed his opponent two points in the three games. Please come out and support the team as we take on Riverdale this coming Wednesday.

Girls' Varsity Basketball: The team has started the season 1-1 as we opened up this past weekend in the Fieldston Tip Off Tournament. In our opening game vs. Sacred Heart (NYC), the team demonstrated its unselfishness as everyone scored and gathered valuable playing time in the 66-22 win. Nereida Mendez led the way with 18 points, followed by Jenn Howland and Emily Moran, who each had 13 points. Tara Berger added 6 points to go along with her 8 rebounds. Zoe Verni grabbed 6 rebounds, and Melanie Mandell added 5 rebounds of her own. Xavi Marbury gathered 4 assists and 3 steals in her varsity debut. Maria McEnroe added 5 points/5 rebounds, Jess Grasso led the team in steals (3) and added 2 points, as well.  In the championship game, we faced Staten Island Academy,  a very scrappy and quick team. We had a difficult time handling their constant pressure, losing 66-47. Tara Berger led us with 14 points/9 rebounds, followed by Nereida Mendez 8 points/3 assists. Zoe Verni continues to be solid defensively. Nereida Mendez and Jenn Howland earned All Tournament team honors. The team hopes to rebound from this loss as it plays 3 games this week: Wednesday, December 11 at Dalton, Friday, December 13 at Hamden Hal,l and Saturday, December 14, our home opener at 3 p.m. vs. Millbrook.

Varsity Wrestling: The team competed at the Canterbury tournament this past Saturday. Dylan Bronson won his first two matches, before a heartbreaking loss in overtime in the semi-finals. Brian Araque, Arthur Nagashima, Sean Price, Hannes Boehning, Marc Schneider, and Justin Chun all won at least one match, but did not place. Jay Waddell and Henry Cho also got their first win of the season in the JV scrimmage segment of the tournament. We travel to the Trinity School on Saturday next week for a dual meet tournament.

Varsity Fencing: The Wildcats started the 2013-2014 season on a great note. Facing strong and talented teams from Hackley School, the RCDS foil, epee and saber squads did an excellent job, fencing with 'strength and honor', living up to their motto. When all was said and done, Rye Country Day School walked away with four victories and two defeats. The boys' and girls' foil teams both won. The girls' saber team and the boys' epee team were also victorious. And the girls' epee and the boys' saber teams fought well but ultimately were stung by the Hackley Hornets. All in all, it was an excellent day of fencing and a wonderful start to the season.

Girls' Varsity Squash: It has been a very successful week for the team. The Wildcats won their first match last Wednesday against the Hotchkiss School on their own courts in a very close 4-3 score. Mariana Lee made an impressive comeback after being down 2-0 by winning the match 3-2 and securing the win for RCDS. Last Thursday, the team was too strong for Green Farms by beating them 7-0. Only one game was dropped by our number-one player, Caroline Kimmel, who played a strong number-one player from Green Farms. Last Monday, the girls traveled to City View Racquet club to play Chapin. In a 45-minute match, the RCDS squash girls were too strong for Chapin, winning 7-0 with no games dropped during the match.
