Boys' Varsity Ice Hockey: The team hosted The Harvey School last Wednesday and played to a 4 - 4 tie.  Goals were scored by Blake Beber (2), Kyle Halloran, and Serafim Rocco.  On Saturday, the team welcomed Moses Brown from Rhode Island to campus.  The team played one of its strongest games on the season and won 7 - 0.  Goals were scored by Blake Beber (2), Chase Jaeger, Serafim Rocco, Henry Alderson Smith, Kyle Halloran, and Jeffrey Chen. Eric Herbst got the win in goal.  This week the teams hosts Rye Town Harrison on Tuesday, travels to The Harvey School on Thursday, and then hosts The Hill School on Saturday in a game to raise money for Autism Awareness.  Please come out and support the girls' team at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, and the boys' team at 3:30 p.m.  The teams will be wearing special jerseys, there will be "chuck-a-puck" between periods, and the RCDS Autism Speaks group will be serving refreshments.  We hope to see a large crowd this weekend for a great cause and some great hockey action.

Boys' Varsity Basketball: The team has only played one game in the past week due to a gap in the schedule. That game was an away game at King on Wednesday. The Wildcats were led by Salim Green, who had 19 points in the first half and finished with 26 points in the game. James McPhail and Chris Picard also had breakout games, each with a double/double. James McPhail had 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Chris Picard had 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Wildcats hope to continue their success against Packer and Brunswick this week.

Girls' Varsity Ice Hockey: The team traveled to New Jersey and Pennsylvania this past weekend for an overnight trip to play Princeton Day School on Friday, January 17,  and The Hill School on Saturday, January 18. The Wildcats split the weekend, beating PDS 1-0, but unfortunately losing to Hill 3-2. In our win against PDS, Stephanie O’Brien scored an unassisted goal late in the third period to secure the win. Goaltender Graycn Campbell also played an outstanding game with 34 saves. Against The Hill School, both Maddie Lyons and Stephanie O’Brien contributed with 1 goal and 1 assist apiece, as well as two assists made by Ciara Clare. Unfortunately, that was not enough to combat Hill’s offense. Upcoming games include a rematch against Portledge on Wednesday, January 22, at home starting at 5 p.m., as well as North Yarmouth Academy on Saturday, January 25, at home for a 1:30 p.m. start. At Saturday’s game, we will be playing in support of Autism Speaks.

Boys' Varsity Squash: The team had a great week of squash. We started off with a 7-0 win against Millbrook. Teddy Tananbaum and Eli Rattner led the way with excellent rails and a patient approach, earning 3-0 victories. On Friday, we had an incredibly close match with the Taft School, which lasted two hours and twenty minutes. Usually matches last an hour and a half! Carl Shuck played outstanding squash, establishing his deep shots and also hitting near perfect drop shots. In the end, he lost 11-6 in the fifth, but he should be proud of his efforts against one of the top players in the country. James Pierpont also played a tremendous match, coming out victorious in five tough games. In the end, we dropped a close match, 6-1. On Saturday, we traveled up to Salisbury, Conn., to play Hotchkiss and Salisbury. We started the day beating Salisbury 7-0. Carl Shuck, James Pierpont, Will Chai, Jack Mattson, Eli Rattner, Jared Yanis, Kyle Eagan, and Nathan Spring all won 3-0. Right after that, we took to the courts to play a very talented Hotchkiss team. Kyle Eagan earned the lone victory, by volleying consistently and putting his opponent under a great deal of pressure. At the end of a tough week of matches, the boys finished with a 2-2 record and moved our overall record to 6-4. This week will go a long way to getting our legs ready for the High School National Championships, where we are a number 5-8 seed in the "B" Division.

Girls' Varsity Basketball: The team has improved to 6-5.  We lost to Hackley 51-37 after being down by 17 after the first quarter. Emily Moran and Tara Berger led us with 12 points apiece.  We bounced back versus Hopkins to win 57-27. Tara Berger paced us with 16 first half points en route to a 22 point performance. Jenn Howland followed with 10 points, and Maddy Cooper sparked a 2nd half rally with 6 quick points. Rounding out our scoring was Taylor Regan and Emily Moran, with 5 points, and Jess Grasso and Maria McEnroe with 4 apiece. The team looks to continue it's winning ways as it travels to Greens Farms on Thursday, January 23 and hosts King on Friday, January 24.

Varsity Wrestling: Our team split a pair of matches, once again, maintaining our .500 season at this point. Both matches were very close, as we lost to Dalton 42-36, then came back against Harding 36-30. In the Dalton match, we recognized our seniors: Marc Schneider, Dylan Bronson, Max Wright, and George Matelich. Marc Schneider recorded a first period pin in dramatic fashion. Joining Marc with pins for the Wildcats were Sean Chan and Hannes Boehning. Henry Cho also won a decisive victory by decision in his exhibition match. On Friday, we headed out to Bridgeport, Conn., to take on an improved Harding High squad. Still without our captains and a few others, we pulled together to squeak out the win. Max Wright, Sean Price, Marc Schneider, Jay Waddell, Max Pil, and Felipe Gomez all won their respective matches. To top off a great day of wrestling, we stopped off for a team pizza party for some well deserved celebrating and bonding. We have a match with Lexington S. D. tomorrow, then head up to Hamden Hall for the FAA championships. We eagerly await the return of both George Matelich and Dylan Bronson. Each of them are returning All-FAA recipients.

Varsity Fencing: The girls' varsity foil team remains undefeated. Since you've heard from us last, the RCDS Fencing Wildcats have had tough competitions. On January 13, we went to Brooklyn and fenced with St. Ann's. The final outcome was an overall victory for RCDS with 4 wins and 1 loss. On January 15, the RCDS girls hosted Marymount and fought hard and finished the day with a victory for girls' foil and close defeats for our girls' sabre and epee teams. Finally, on January 17, we had our biggest defeat of the season against Masters. There were very close encounters, but at the end of the day, RCDS had just one victory for the girls' foil team and losses for the other teams. Our spirit runs high and we are ready to bounce back against Clarkstown on Wednesday and GA/Brunswick on Friday.

Girls' Varsity Squash: Another successful week for our team. First, RCDS played Sacred Heart last Tuesday at home. You never know what to expect from Sacred Heart because in the past they have always had strong players on their team. Fortunately RCDS came out very strong and beat Sacred Heart 7-0. The second match last week was against local opponent Holy Child. Again In this match RCDS proved too strong and beat their Holy Child 7-0. This week, the RCDS varsity squash girls are playing a hard match at Taft School on Wednesday at 4:15 p.m., and a Tri-match vs Westmister School and CSH, so come and show your support for the team!!
