Boys' Varsity Ice Hockey: The team finished its regular season with a back-and-forth, 4 - 4 tie with Greenwich High School on Wednesday. The team was led by a hat trick from Will Halloran. Billy Grossman also had a goal in the game. The team will host Hamden Hall on Thursday at RCDS in the FAA Semi-Finals. Come cheer the team on as it looks to win its third straight FAA championship.
Boys' Varsity Basketball: The team has ended the regular season on a high note. To end the season, the Wildcats faced off against the league-leading St. Luke's Storm. The Wildcats played a tough and gritty game and came out victors in the 77-68 victory. The Wildcats placed 4th in the FAA for the regular season. The first round of the playoffs will take place on Wednesday, February 19, at 4:30 p.m., as the Wildcats host 5th seed Hopkins.
Girls' Varsity Ice Hockey: This team had a week scheduled full of practices, but missed some due to snow and the long Presidents' Weekend. This is the final week of the season, culminating with two away games. The team will travel to play Millbrook on Wednesday, February 19, and Worcester Academy on Saturday, February 22, and will look for some strong leadership to end the season from captains Ciara Clare and Jamie Simensky.
Boys' Varsity Squash: Last week, the team hosted perennial squash power Choate Rosemary Hall. On paper, this match looked to be an incredibly close contest. In the end, the prognosticators were correct, as RCDS pulled out a narrow 4-3 victory. Kyle Eagan, James Pierpont, and Jack Mattson took the courts for the first round of matches. After some incredible squash, Choate held a slim 2-1 lead, with James Pierpont earning the lone RCDS victory in a five-game match. At this point, RCDS still had the opportunity to earn four wins and the match. In the second round of matches, Carl Shuck, Will Chai, and Jared Yanis were all able to earn wins to give the team the four points we needed for the match. Also on court in the second round was Eli Rattner, who battled from two games down to get his individual match knotted up at two all. Despite his best efforts, Eli Rattner fell to a talented Choate opponent 11-8 in the fifth. This contest demonstrated that the team has been improving all season long and had the grit to win a very tight match. The experience will serve them well as they travel to Brooks School to vie for the New England "A" Championships this weekend.
Girls' Varsity Basketball: The team has ended its regular season at 13-7 after beating Holy Child 53-47 in overtime to secure 3rd place in the league with a 7-2 record. Tara Berger paced us with 12 points and 7 rebounds that included clutch free throws in overtime. Jenn Howland and Nereida Mendez followed with 10 points a piece, and Maria McEnroe chipped in 7. The team looks to carry the energy into the playoffs as we host Masters on Thursday, February 20, at 4:30 p.m.
Varsity Wrestling: The team had one final dual meet last week at Hackley. There were many good matches, and it was a back-and-forth match. Felipe Gomez got us off to a good start with a second period pin at 122lbs. Sean Chan had the most exciting match of the afternoon, as he got a reversal with one second on the clock to secure his win. Dylan Bronson, Tiler Wilson, and Hannes Boehning each had to wrestle against Hackley's NY Prep & Ivy League champs. Although they all lost, each individual match was very close, deserving of recognition for their effort and skill.
Varsity Fencing: On February 22, we will close the 2013/2014 season with the ISFL Team Tournament hosted by Hackley School. This is an all-day event where all eight schools in our league will participate with more than 150 fencers. It promises to be an exciting day. You are all welcome to attend and get a taste of some high-level fencing.
Girls' Varsity Squash: Last week the team played its last league away match against a very strong Choate. Going into this match, the girls knew that Choate was the runner up in the Nationals from a weekend earlier, so they expected a hard match. RCDS started strong but came a little to short of a win. Although the score was a 6-1 loss, the match was a lot closer. Catherine Kimmel took a win for RCDS and beat her opponent 3-0. This week, the girls are traveling up to the Middlesex School to compete in the New England Tournament where they will be competing against the strongest teams from the northeast.
