Sophomore Miles Chun was recently named the High School Champion of the National Scholastic Chess Foundation 2017-2018 Grand Prix Tournament. The NSCF Grand Prix competition offers special awards to players who compete frequently and well in NSCF tournaments. The competition is structured by grade categories, with point assignments based on the strength of the sections a player has competed in, and the scores achieved in those sections.

To compete in the Grand Prix, Miles won the Middle-High School division of the NSCF's Westchester County Scholastic Chess Championship. At that tournament, Miles took first place in a field of 16 that included 7 competitors who (like Miles) held ratings above 1000. Even more impressively, he defeated a second-place finisher who held a rating higher than Miles's own -- an impressive underdog victory.

Congratulations, Miles!
