Alumni Games Highlight Holiday

Although school was officially closed for Thanksgiving break on Friday, November 23, the Athletic Center and football field at Rye Country Day School resounded with the sounds of alumni and friends who had gathered for a long-standing RCDS tradition: post-turkey-day ice hockey and basketball games, as well as the first annual touch football game.

Generations of alumni from the classes of 1963 to 2012 returned, many to skate on the rink or play on the court or field, some to watch their alumni children play, and still others to visit with favorite coaches, including John Sabia, Frank Effinger, Gil Castagna, Ted Heintz, John Calandros, Athletic Trainer/Assistant Athletic Director Steve Norman, and Athletic Director Wendy Haft.

MVP awards were presented at the post-game reception, with the honors going to hockey players Michael Closter '75 and Michael Zody '86 and basketball players Antoine Gobin '07 and Erik Sherman '85.

Alumni new to the Thanksgiving Games made fast friends with veterans, and no matter the outcome of either match, RCDS was the winner.
