Congratulations to Abhinav Kumar '20 on receiving the 2019 Rising Scientist Award from the Child Mind Institute. Considering leadership in the classroom and beyond, the award is a recognition of Abhinav's academic performance in science classes and his desire and ability to address advanced scientific questions and concepts. A superb student, Abhinav's academic record at RCDS is outstanding, and he has taken a number of honors and AP courses. He has been active in science research since Middle School. He also participates regularly in extracurricular activities pertaining to science research including, among many other impressive pursuits, interning during the summer at the Engelman Lab at Stanford University to better understand the systemic impact of the gut microbiome and its relationship to neurological diseases.
Abhinav received the award at the Child Mind Institute's ninth annual On the Shoulders of Giants Symposium, a celebration of scientific achievement in child and adolescent psychiatry, psychology and developmental neuroscience. The award was presented by the Child Mind Institute's 2019 Sarah Gund Distinguished Scientist, Dr. John Weisz, professor of psychology at Harvard University.
Abhinav is the second RCDS student to win this competitive award that recognizes and celebrates student excellence (in 2012, Jillian Katz '13 won the award).
