The RCDS Upper School robotics team traveled to Long Island School for the Gifted on Saturday, November 16, to compete against 18 other teams in a VEX "Tower Takeover" Qualifying Tournament for the Southern New York State Championship. This was the first competition of the year and the team's first chance to test its robots against other teams' designs and strategies. Rye Country Day's two competing groups placed third and eighth in the qualifying rounds and made it to the finals and semifinals respectively during the playoff rounds. Throughout the day, RCDS students were quick to identify and correct issues with their robots as they arose, and the experience gave them a number of ideas on how to improve their designs for the rest of the season.
