Part of being a good digital citizen is appreciating and upholding the ethical responsibility associated with sharing information online. Contributing to the learning around the 2019-20 school-wide theme of citizenship, the RCDS Technology Committee has created opportunities for students across divisions to examine digital citizenship as it relates to the integrity of online content. Lower School students learned how to verify website authenticity and reliability, and Middle and Upper School students learned about the C.R.A.P. (Currency, Relevancy, Authorship, Purpose) test for evaluating web sources. The Lower Schoolers read news stories from various sources and discussed how to evaluate their veracity, and their older schoolmates looked at various clues on integrity that can be found in the make-up of a web address. The committee will have three more digital citizenship learning opportunities this year, as well as a screening of "LIKE," a documentary about the impact of social media on our lives and the effects of technology on the brain. The screening is scheduled for the evening of February 19. Save the date!
