JUNE CAMP INFORMATION
JUNE CAMPS! Attention all students in grades 8 through 11
: Information on June Camps (June 10 through 14) has been published on the RCDS Web site on the section for athletics. It is a great chance to receive some excellent coaching in preparation for next year’s seasons. To see the June Camps Brochure, click here.

Girls' Varsity Lacrosse: The team had a productive scrimmage against Rye High School on Wednesday. The team has four practices to prepare for their next opponents. The focus of practice will be on shot placement, challenging in the 8M, cutting down angles, and draw control. In addition, the girls are working on their offensive plays and defensive strategies. Next week, the Wildcats take on Portledge on Wednesday, and Hackley on Saturday. RCDS will have the home field advantage for both important NYSAISAA games.

Boys' Varsity Lacrosse: The team got off to a great start to the 2013 season. The boys' hard work in the pre-season definitely paid off in the opener against Hamden Hall, which was a 7-5 victory. This game was important for a couple of reasons. One, it always feels good to start a season with a win, and two, we were definitely looking for some redemption after last year's overtime loss. After initial first-game jitters, the team settled in nicely and controlled most aspects of the game. We got awesome play from goalie Michael Farber; he not only made a lot of great saves, but also was a great leader of a young defensive group. Offensively, Dylan Bass was the quarterback of the attack group; he scored three goals and had one assist. Fellow attackmen Justin Weissman and Thomas Chai netted their first varsity goals, as Justin Weissman netted two, and Thomas Chai had one. At midfield, Tyler Miller and Tommy Garry were "horses," as they were all over the field and involved in all aspects of the game, and it was great to have Kyle Halloran back and in the fold. Following the Hamden Hall game, we hosted Masters. We played a very crisp game and were able to put the game out of reach early on. It was great to get everyone on the roster game action. Sean Price made three, second-half saves, and Tommy Patricola, Jack Hughes, and Eric Herbst all netted their first goals. The competition stepped up when we faced-off against Canterbury. I could not have been more proud of the team and the effort the players put forth. Defensively, we held Canterbury to three, first-half goals, which speaks to the incredible play of Mikey Farber, and the job that defensemen Jon Singer, Andrew Antonacci, Brian DiSanto, and Matty Farber did against a talented group of offensive players. Also of note was the play of Tyler Miller. It seemed like he never came off the field. His play on the offensive end (4 goals), at the face-off X, and in transition kept us in the game. His last goal, a backhanded shot, came off a terrific feed from Tommy Garry. Finally, Will Halloran, a midfielder, did a terrific job filling in at attack. He possessed the ball well and made a couple of great looks to the crease. In the end, we ran out of steam in the second half, but we came away from this game with a lot of positives to build upon.

Varsity Baseball: The team finished the week having played three league games in a row. The team won two of those games. In the opener versus St Luke’s, Tyler Fernandez pitched 4 scoreless innings for the win. Matthew Crowley came on in relief to pitch one inning, as the team ended the game in five innings because of the "mercy" rule score of 15 to 4. Luke Cappellano was the big hitting star, going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 6 RBI’s. Tyler Fernandez helped his cause going 3 for 3, and Matthew Webster added two hits of his own.

The second game was also a mercy rule game, as the team won 13 to 3 versus Masters. Eighth grader Enzo Stefanoni picked up his first varsity win as a pitcher, going three scoreless innings to complete the game. Quinn Kurzner started the game on the mound and went two innings. Tyler Fernandez continued his hot hitting, collecting another two hits, and Peter Shu came on strong at the plate, going 3 for 4. At Brunswick, the Wildcats lost their first game 5 to 3. A back and forth game that turned Brunswick’s way late in the game. Andrew Waite started on the mound, and looked good going four innings. Enzo Stefanoni completed the game, throwing 3 scoreless innings. Five players collected one hit apiece. The hits were spread out by Liam Dalton, Quinn Kurzner, Peter Shu, Enzo Stefanoni, and Matthew Webster.

Varsity Softball: The team has started its season 2-0 with wins versus Hamden Hall (18-0) and Rye High School (7-6). In the opener against Hamden Hall, every starter had a least 1 hit. Pitcher Eve Wulf only gave up 3 hits to go along with 6 strikeouts.  Jess Grasso blasted a home run en route to a 3 hit, 3 RBI performance. Taylor Forte also collected 3 hits including a double, triple and 3 RBIs. Sydney Ginsberg, Nereida Mendez, and Lily Velona all had 3 hits apiece.

Our game versus Rye HS came down to the final inning. Melanie Mandell made a back-handed, diving catch in right center field in the bottom of the 7th to help secure the win.  Jess Grasso continues to be hot at the plate going 3-4, which included a triple. She also made a diving stop from 2nd base and from her knees threw a runner out at the plate. Taylor Forte was 2-5 with 2 RBI’s and also threw a runner out at home from left field. Sydney Ginsberg collected 2 hits in addition to her solid defensive play at shortstop. Nereida Mendez and AmberRose Nelson continue their solid defensive play behind the plate and 3rd base, respectively.

The Wildcats return to home field on Thursday, April 11 versus Greenwich Academy and on Saturday, April 13 versus Millbrook.

Boys' Varsity Tennis: The team's roster is now complete. After a very competitive tryout season, the final four positions are now in place. Freshman Jack Alpert, and sophomores Nick Wilmer, Ryan Sobel, and Jonathan Faxon have made the team. Congratulations to them on their fine performance. This past Tuesday, April 9, the Wildcats opened their season against Section 1 Champion, Byram Hills.

Varsity Sailing: The team raced in the NYISA-SE League Mallory Qualifier Regatta this past Saturday.  Fourteen schools attended the regatta and RCDS placed 9th.  The team was represented by Peter Duncan, Andrew Rochat, Haley Shea, Georgia Kleiner, Kyle Hanlon, and Hannah van der Vord. Eight races were sailed in some challenging sailing conditions with very light and shifty wind with a strong current at SUNY Maritime.  The team will head back to practice at Indian Harbor Yacht Club this week to prepare for our next league regatta on April 20.

Girls' Varsity Golf: After a cold, wet start, the team finally got a true golf day to open up the season.  On a beautiful warm sunny Monday, the girls traveled to Stanwich Country Club to play GA and King. The captains are doing a good job of promoting team unity and spirit and getting this team enthusiastic about the season.   There are always some nerves that come into play, but the girls played well and are encouraged for the next match. On Wednesday, the team travels to play Taft.

Boys' Varsity Golf: The team is off to a 1-1 start, with a tough loss to Brunswick and an impressive win over Masters. Junior captain Theo Humphrey shot a fantastic 4 under 33 in the win over Masters. Adam Alpert, Zachary Coppola, and Daniel Tricarico turned in strong performances in both matches.

Varsity Track and Field: The RCDS team did well last Saturday at Rye's G Day. The weather was nice, and the atmosphere was great. On the track, the 8 x 200 meter relay female squads took 1st and 3rd place with times of 3:53.9 and 4:24.1, respectively. The winning group of seniorJulie Shanus, freshmen Olivia Sullivan, Sabrina Piccinini, Jinjer Pearce, sophomoresCaroline Kimmel, Tara Berger, Sophie Grayer, and junior Franchesca Pena ran fast and determined. The 3rd-place team won the second heat and just missed nipping the Rye team that ran in the first heat. The squad of junior Chriss Sandling, sophomores Sarah Brodwolf, Caroline Brody, Emma Chu, freshmen Nicola Leake, Nicole Reindel, Tori Katz, and Leigh Weiss also ran valiantly and with purpose. Other victorious teams for the girls were the 4x400 meter relay team of Jinjer Pearce, Tara Berger, Olivia Sullivan, and Caroline Kimmel, the high jump relay team of Tara Berger and Olivia Sullivan, and the trio of Julie Shanus, Chriss Sandling, and Olivia Sullivan in the long jump competition. Sarah Brodwolf also had the farthest throw in the discus event with a throw of 71 feet.

The boys were just as productive as the girls, with victories in the 8x200, 4x400, long jump relay, and the hurdle race. The group of senior Andrew Gillen, juniors Alec Boccanfuso, Nat Cooney, Dylan Bronson, Marco Bohorquez, sophomore Leo Gomez, and freshmen Raul Quintero Ochoa and Jimmy Sandling ran an overall fast time of 3:25.2, and each individual ran a personal best time. In the 110 high hurdles, senior Jack Reynolds won the event in a personal best time of 17.4 seconds. Sophomore Ryan Wilk also finished with a personal best time of 18.1 seconds. The long jump relay was won by the trio of Andrew Gillen, Jimmy Sandling, and freshman Tyler Wilson. Finally, the 4x400 team of Jimmy Sandling, Andrew Gillen, Alec Boccanfuso, and junior Tyler Kaye were winners with a decent early season time 3:47.1. In the 2 x 1600 meter relays the distance boys and girls squads ran very well and the cool morning weather was ideal. Juniors Kevin Collado and Tyler Kaye ran a good combined time of 10:32.7 en route to a 3rd place finish. All in all, every member of the team that was able to run, got on the oval and represented for themselves and for RCDS. Next up for the Wildcats will be the Ivy Developmental #1 meet at the Hackley School on Tuesday April 9, and then at The Ossining Relays on Saturday April 13.
